Scalextrick

A 2 track balearic / downtempo single (8m 33s) — released May 16th 2005 on Cookshop

Ever recall the days of excitedly trying to piece together your Scalextric track, revving that hand throttle then watching as your car gloriously careers off the side into the nearest wall? Jonathan Krisp certainly does and is kind enough to share such memories on this cheeky little Cookshop Jukebox 45. The cunningly titled 'Scalextrick' sees Mr Krisp in full wonky vocodered funk mode with some bad ass vibes, tight beats and two knowledgeable pros who clearly know their way around a Scalextric track. Toy racing has never been this much fun! Contrasting on the flip is 'Paris In Winter', a coldly lush downtempo affair replete with fuzzy rhodes and crackling strings, perfect music for hibernation. All in all another weird and wonderful release from Brighton's most unpredictable leftfield label.'

"funky 70?s blaxpo? styled backing, generating enough enthusiasm to make you want to get those plastic figure of eights laid out all over again. Musically its well put together, familiar enough for instant head nod factor and never content to settle into loop and groove mode, so the attention is never lost." - Update Magazine

This release from Jonathan Krisp has a sparkle and pizzazz ..."Scalextrick" is a race between those noisy trigger-activated cars and invigorating jazzed-up keys. "Paris In Winter" is a superior effort, with thigh slapping percussion, one-tone keys and frozen strings. - Jon Freer Mosoul.com

Musically its well put together, familiar enough for instant head nod factor and never content to settle into loop and groove mode, so the attention is never lost. The additional track ?Paris in Winter? is a cold, mellow affair of the heart, proof the guys got soul as well as funk. **** - Darren Wall DMC Update

...reminds drivers of The Herbaliser at their slick, cocktail bar jazz with a twist best, slipping into cruise control and seeing ?Intergalactic? vocoders and slipstreaming twiddles into the unknown handling well. After packing the toys away, JK skates delightfully across snow-kissed thoughts like Nowhere Man enjoying log cabin magic. **** - Matt Oliver DMC Update
